Summary

Face your demons。。。 or feed them。

The boy king。 The war hero。 The prince with a demon curled inside his heart。 Nikolai Lantsov has always had a gift for the impossible。 The people of Ravka don't know what he endured in their bloody civil war and he intends to keep it that way。 Yet with each day a dark magic within him grows stronger, threatening to destroy all he has built。

Zoya Nazyalensky has devoted her life to honing her deadly talents and rebuilding the Grisha army。 Despite their magical gifts, Zoya knows the Grisha cannot survive without Ravka as a place of sanctuary—and Ravka cannot survive a weakened king。 Zoya will stop at nothing to help Nikolai secure the throne, but she also has new enemies to conquer in the battle to come。

Far north, Nina Zenik wages her own kind of war against the people who would see the Grisha wiped from the earth forever。 Burdened by grief and a terrifying power, Nina must face the pain of her past if she has any hope of defeating the dangers that await her on the ice。

Ravka's king。 Ravka's general。 Ravka's spy。 They will journey past the boundaries of science and superstition, of magic and faith, and risk everything to save a broken nation。 But some secrets aren't meant to stay buried, and some wounds aren't meant to heal。

A boring disappointment which took me forevvvvver。 The story was disjointed and Nina’s storyline didn’t even connect to the main plot。 It was just there sometimes。 The ending was good thought and hopefully will be a good set up for RoW。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I was really disappointed with this book。 I honestly didn't care for Nina's chapters after she had buried Matthais。 I found them boring and really struggled through reading this book because of it。 I wish after she had buried him she would have rejoined the rest of the group or just stopped。 3 stars is being generous, especially considering that the book wasn't even that interesting until a little over hald way through。 I love Nikolai。 He was my favorite character from the Shadow and Bone trilog I was really disappointed with this book。 I honestly didn't care for Nina's chapters after she had buried Matthais。 I found them boring and really struggled through reading this book because of it。 I wish after she had buried him she would have rejoined the rest of the group or just stopped。 3 stars is being generous, especially considering that the book wasn't even that interesting until a little over hald way through。 I love Nikolai。 He was my favorite character from the Shadow and Bone trilogy, which is why I was so excited to read this duology。 Honestly feel more relieved to be done with this book than anything。 It was a trudge and I'm not exactly looking forward to reading Rule of Wolves, but feel like I have to。 At least the ending of the book was a good cliff hanger。 。。。more

Definitely my least favorite out of the Grishaverse, which is surprising since it centers on Nikolai。 I mean, who doesn't love Nikolai。 After the war, Alina & Mal are gone & Nikolai is trying to save Ravka。 Nina is in Fjerda trying to avenge the deaths of Grisha women being experimented on by Jarl Brum & the Fjerdan government。 The third point of view is Zoya; we get a more intimate view of who she was and is。 Still worth the time。 Definitely my least favorite out of the Grishaverse, which is surprising since it centers on Nikolai。 I mean, who doesn't love Nikolai。 After the war, Alina & Mal are gone & Nikolai is trying to save Ravka。 Nina is in Fjerda trying to avenge the deaths of Grisha women being experimented on by Jarl Brum & the Fjerdan government。 The third point of view is Zoya; we get a more intimate view of who she was and is。 Still worth the time。 。。。more

“Nikolai looked again at the old map of Ravka—violent, hopeless, unappeasable in its constant need。 Ravka was his first love, an infatuation that had begun in his lonely boyhood and that had only deepened with age。 Whatever it demanded, he knew he would give。”King of Scars is the continuation on the Grisaverse by author Leigh Bardugo。 In the aftermath of Six of Crows and Shadow and Bone, Ravka is struggling to keep up with their neighboring kingdoms technological advances。 King Nicolae also has “Nikolai looked again at the old map of Ravka—violent, hopeless, unappeasable in its constant need。 Ravka was his first love, an infatuation that had begun in his lonely boyhood and that had only deepened with age。 Whatever it demanded, he knew he would give。”King of Scars is the continuation on the Grisaverse by author Leigh Bardugo。 In the aftermath of Six of Crows and Shadow and Bone, Ravka is struggling to keep up with their neighboring kingdoms technological advances。 King Nicolae also has a secret he’s harboring that he does not even realize。While Zoya, Nicolae, and his counterparts struggle to keep Ravka afloat, Nina is on her own journey。 She is still mourning the passing of her lover and finding who she is and what she is capable of in the aftermath。I can honestly say I was not much of a fan of this book。 I struggled to even finish it。 The whole beginning of the story I did not enjoy, but the second half began to speed up and get interesting。 I was indifferent towards Zoya and Nikolai。 Zoya probably because how how horrible she was during Shadow and Bone。 I liked Nina’s storyline, but I’m unsure what it had to do with Nikolai and Zoya。 Perhaps it will merge more in the next book, but as or right now it seems like Nina should have been a separate book。Surprisingly, Isaak was the one I looked forward to the most。 Isaak the fourth and final POV in this tale。 He is a palace guard who agrees to take up a duty he is unsure he will be able to complete。 I found his point-of-view refreshing when it finally appeared。I give this book 3。5 stars。 I normally finish a book of this length in a day or two。 Instead, it took me over a week。 I’m uncertain when I will continue onto the next book。 Probably when I’m excited for the next season of Shadow and Bone。 。。。more

4。3! AHHHHH NIKOLAI MY BABY !!!!! I am literally obsessed with this book and the characters。 Nikolai is definitely my favorite, but I also love Nina for obvious reasons。 I also really like Zoya, I relate to her a lot! This book had a lot of twists at the end, and I was totally here for it。 I one hundred percent recommend!

Nikolai is probably the best character in the series so this book was exactly what I was hoping for。 If anyone can keep Ravka from falling apart it is Nikolai and Zoya。 And they are a ship you can really root for as well (a big improvement upon Alina and Mal)。 I can't wait for the next book to see if Zoya and Nikolai can manage to hold their kingdom together。 I also look forward to the havoc that will come with the reintroduction of a certain fan favourite psychopath。 Bring on the next book! I don't know about you but I have VERY soft spot for women killing Gods/Saints, looking at you Aelin Ashryver Galathynius and Zoya Nazyalensky。I loved the banter in the first part of the book, I missed these characters so much。 BUT。 I wanted more Nikolai。 It feels like he was barely in the book。 I wanted more Nikolai and Zoya and I wanted some slow burn。。。 some angst。 But it was good。 And the ending。。。 I saw it coming BUT STILL。PS: Zoya's story。。。?? *cries forever* I don't know about you but I have VERY soft spot for women killing Gods/Saints, looking at you Aelin Ashryver Galathynius and Zoya Nazyalensky。I loved the banter in the first part of the book, I missed these characters so much。 BUT。 I wanted more Nikolai。 It feels like he was barely in the book。 I wanted more Nikolai and Zoya and I wanted some slow burn。。。 some angst。 But it was good。 And the ending。。。 I saw it coming BUT STILL。PS: Zoya's story。。。?? *cries forever* 。。。more

Just catching up on the Grishaverse as the Netflix series is coming out soon。Ms。 Bardugo writes some great characters with a lot of plot twists and turns。 It's been a while since I read that last one so I floundered a bit trying to remember everyone and all that has happened。 This is a great series if you're into fantasy。 Just catching up on the Grishaverse as the Netflix series is coming out soon。Ms。 Bardugo writes some great characters with a lot of plot twists and turns。 It's been a while since I read that last one so I floundered a bit trying to remember everyone and all that has happened。 This is a great series if you're into fantasy。 。。。more

This was a roller coaster read, and Bardugo knows how to write a compelling cliff hanger ending。 I'm very relieved that Rule of Wolves just came out, having to wait for months or years after that ending would have killed me。 So much for a quick break before I started Wolves。 🙃 This was a roller coaster read, and Bardugo knows how to write a compelling cliff hanger ending。 I'm very relieved that Rule of Wolves just came out, having to wait for months or years after that ending would have killed me。 So much for a quick break before I started Wolves。 🙃 。。。more

Chiara xx 。。。more

Zoya would have to be one of my favourite characters ever written。 She's so complex and alluring。 Her character fits in well with Nikolai and I love all their scenes together。 I'm so glad we got to read from their perspectives。 Surprisingly I didn't enjoy Nina's POVs as much as I thought I would。 I hated it every time she kept something from Leoni and Adrik。 Zoya would have to be one of my favourite characters ever written。 She's so complex and alluring。 Her character fits in well with Nikolai and I love all their scenes together。 I'm so glad we got to read from their perspectives。 Surprisingly I didn't enjoy Nina's POVs as much as I thought I would。 I hated it every time she kept something from Leoni and Adrik。 。。。more

"He would not beg her to stay。 It was not in his nature to plead with anyone, and that was not the pact they shared。 They did not look at each other for comfort。 They kept each other marching。 They kept each other strong。 So he would not find another excuse to get her talking again。 He would not tell her he was afraid to be left alone with the thing he might become。"There are some things that I loved in this story and some that I'm a bit hesitant about。 I loved the characters, mostly Nikolai and "He would not beg her to stay。 It was not in his nature to plead with anyone, and that was not the pact they shared。 They did not look at each other for comfort。 They kept each other marching。 They kept each other strong。 So he would not find another excuse to get her talking again。 He would not tell her he was afraid to be left alone with the thing he might become。"There are some things that I loved in this story and some that I'm a bit hesitant about。 I loved the characters, mostly Nikolai and Zoya。 Following them, seeing how they think and learning more about their past has been amazing (we all know Leigh is great at characters backstories ^^)。 They are some of the only things I liked about the original trilogy so a whole book about them is all I could have asked for, and it delivered。 Nina was also fine, I love her too, but her story didn't feel as gripping as the other ones, it felt a bit deattached。 I can see how in RoW all will come together but still。 The other character that we follow was something between hilarious and exasperating, but I feel it is what Leigh intended here, and honestly, I liked how it ends。The things I didn't quite like are more related to the plot, to certain ways the story is going that I'm not sure how I feel about, but this is personal preference。 I didn't hate the ending as a lot of people did, but didn't love it either so I'm expectant to read RoW and see how it continues。 There are also some plot points that I really liked, and I enjoyed the book a lot overall (read it in 4 days, that's quick for me)。 I'm falling hard for this world and I think Leigh has build something amazing here even if it's not perfect。 And I would honestly read anything if we are following Nikolai, with or without monster。More details in the spoilers(view spoiler)[ Nikolai and Zoya are just amazing。 Determined, strong, powerful and willing to sacrifice so much for Ravka and its people。 I loved their story and their relationship a lot, mostly because I love their personalities。 Poor Zoya is just as missunderstood outside the book as inside I feel, but I get her and I appreciate what she does so much。 I loved Nikolai's whole arc, how he had to become the monster at the end, not loved so much that Zoya has to conquer all Grisha powers。 I like the different divisions of Grisha, and how everyone can be strong within their own affinity。 And Squallers are my favourite, being a storm witch should be enough。 Which is why I'm not loving her learning to use all the others, and I will also not like if she ends up becoming a dragon。 But maybe it can be done well enough, again I'll have to see in RoW。 For Nina's part, I like her relation with grief and how she ends overcoming it。 But her story felt way less tense that the other storyline, so I read her chapters wishing to return to Nikolai and Zoya。 And honestly I don't care if Brum is Hanne's dad, I want him dead already, he is a pain and a constant threat to Ravka and Fjerda equally。 Talking about wanting people dead。 I didn't love the Grisha trilogy so I don't even remember how the Darkling dies to be honest。 That might be why I don't mind him coming back that much。 Also, centuries old creatures like him feel more like spirit than human so the explanation of why he can come back does not sound bad at all, kinda like Voldemort in HP。 Don't like resurection for sake of resurecting, but that one had a proper explanation (looking at you, ending of Ruin and Rising。 And I didn't even dislike that character as everyone does)。 (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

1 StarI honestly can't give a completely fair review, since I skipped over most of Nina's POV and skimmed through most of the book after the 50ish% mark。My feelings towards this book are a mix between extreme boredom towards the plot and characters, and anger at it reconning the original trilogy。 Most of this book seemed liked fanfiction, and once more lacked anything I enjoyed about the original trilogy。 I'll still read the next book, but I honestly just do not care。Recommended for fans of the 1 StarI honestly can't give a completely fair review, since I skipped over most of Nina's POV and skimmed through most of the book after the 50ish% mark。My feelings towards this book are a mix between extreme boredom towards the plot and characters, and anger at it reconning the original trilogy。 Most of this book seemed liked fanfiction, and once more lacked anything I enjoyed about the original trilogy。 I'll still read the next book, but I honestly just do not care。Recommended for fans of the Grishaverse。---Christian/Conservative Content Advisory;Major/Minor Spoilers:-15 uses of "d*mn"-1uses of "sh*t"-7 uses of "h**l"-2 uses of "a**"-5 uses of "b*****d"-Own Religious System---Notable Quotes:-Kirigin shuffled his feet like a schoolboy。 “I just can’t help but feel that Commander Nazyalensky’s icy demeanor masks a tender spirit。”Tolya snorted。 “She’ll pulp your heart and drink it。”Kirigin looked aghast, but Nikolai suspected Tolya was right。 He’d come to recognize the bizarre phenomenon of Zoya’s beauty, the way men loved to create stories around it。 They said she was cruel because she’d been harmed in the past。 They claimed she was cold because she just hadn’t met the right fellow to warm her。 Anything to soften her edges and sweeten her disposition—and what was the fun in that?
